APPEAL FOR FUNDS TO FINISH BARN EXTENSION

5 February 2012

Can you help to put a roof over our rescued horses? We are appealing to the public to help raise funds to meet the cost of our barn extension.

We have already managed to raise £10,000 through a Big Lottery grant towards the building costs and need to find another £5,000 approximately to complete the work.

The extension will have many benefits for the rescued animals, giving the horses and dogs a sheltered area to exercise with their friends and keep them warm and dry in the winter months. The enclosed area will allow Riding Lessons, with rehabilitated rescued horses, ponies and ex-racehorses, to continue all the year round. At present the riding area has six ponies living in it, as there is a shortage of stabling, and no matter how many times droppings are lifted and the surface tidied, the area still becomes unlevelled. The new area will mean that when lessons and workshops are in progress the barn ponies will not have to be moved and have their feeding times and routine interrupted.

Young people attending our hands on animal care workshops and Animals Helping People programs will have an extended sheltered area to work with the horses and dogs. This will increase the benefits to all the participants; giving them a chance to learn new skills, increase their self esteem, motivation and confidence. Crosskennan’s Summer Schemes and events could benefit greatly from the enclosed dry area.

Crosskennan is the only horse welfare charity based in N. Ireland and receives no government funding. The number of welfare calls to CLAS has increased by 300% over the last year with the most recent large rescue involving over 30 horses and ponies. The charity is hoping that the public will show their support for this appeal and donate what they can. All donations will be gratefully received.

Can you help Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary to reach its target of £5000?

All donations will help to improve the lives of our rescued animals. Give them hope for the future and help them trust again.
