Volunteering

Volunteers are fundamental to the continuation of the Sanctuary's work and we are always keen to welcome new people. Experience is not essential as full training will be given: a genuine interest in animal welfare and a sense of commitment is more important to us. As a volunteer you can help with anything from hands-on animal care to educational activities to fundraising and events.

  Why Volunteer?

You can:

  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Redevelop old hobbies and interests
  • Give something back and receive much more
  • Learn about animal care and welfare
  • Clean and feed rabbits and hens
  • Help the animals get the second chance they deserve
  • Learn new skills
  • Help a good cause

Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary is an entirely voluntary organisation. Although small, we are the only education based animal charity in Northern Ireland. We are members of the National Equine Welfare Council and the Animal Welfare Federation of Northern Ireland.

With no paid members of staff, we depend upon volunteers for the continuation of our work and are always keen to welcome new people. Experience is beneficial but not essential as, following full assessment, training will be given.

Nobody will be asked to undertake a task they are unsure about or for which they have not be given sufficient training. What is more important is a genuine interest in animal welfare and a sense of commitment. Even one hour a week can make a difference.

Animals are great social facilitators and the volunteers at C.L.A.S. always enjoy themselves whilst helping a good cause. Health and safety are important; volunteers are advised to wear suitable clothing and footwear and to attend Induction Day Training.

We have diversified into education and training and offer group sessions (we can facilitate up to 30 people per session). Times and charges by arrangement.

  Each session offers:

  • Basic animal care and welfare
  • How to behave responsibly and safely in an animal environment
  • Responsible animal ownership
  • How to groom ponies and dogs
  • How to put on a headcollar and lead a horse
  • Basic riding
  • Arts and crafts

YOU can help us reach even more animals

Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary does not receive any government funding and therefore we rely heavily on the generosity and goodwill of individuals like you. There are so many ways you can help including sponsoring one of the Sanctuary residents, making a one-off donation, organising a fundraising event on our behalf or by pledging a legacy.

Become a Sponsor

By committing to donate just a few pounds each month you can help us safeguard the future of many animals in desperate need. Please visit our 'Sponsor an Animal' page for more information.

Make a donation

Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary is Northern Ireland's only equine and education-based animal charity. We depend on the support of generous individuals to allow us to continue our work here. Public donations make up a large proportion of our income and are, therefore, fundamental in helping us deal with the number of welfare cases that we do. We could reach even more! Please help us to do this.

Organise a fundraising event

Please visit our 'Fundraising' page to see the various ways you can help us raise much-needed funds for the animals here.

Pledge a legacy

At Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary we must also think about the future and prepare for the animals that will need our help in the months or years to come. Pledging a legacy is the most certain way a person has of providing for others after their death, whether it is for family, friends, pets or for charities. Legacies left by kind supporters and animal lovers allow us to continue to fulfil our charity objectives of:

- relieving the suffering and distress of animals in need of care and protection by reason of sickness, neglect or maltreatment by establishing and maintaining a sanctuary for such animals and

- advancing the education of the general public in the proper care of animals.

It's very straightforward to make a provision for Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary in your Will whether you are drawing up a new one or amending an existing one. Just speak to your solicitor or contact the Sanctuary for advice.
