About
The volunteers from Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary travel all over the province to rescue animals in need, who are neglected, injured, abandoned and abused. So it was a surprise when a little 6 month old Collie pup painfully made his way through the main gates and up the lane to the charity’s yard. The puppy, Tim, was clearly struggling to walk but was still excited and happy to see everyone who came out to greet him.
Lyn Friel, the sanctuary's founder and manager, immediately arranged a consultation with Gilbert McKnight at Cedar Grove Veterinary Clinic. The vet diagnosed a severe case of hip dysplasia. Tim is experencing great difficulty walking now but in a couple of months he will become unable to walk at all.
An operation has been recommended if he is to have any chance of a future. In preparation for his operation, muscle must be built up by regular short walks on a lead; starting with six walks lasting two minutes each day, bulding up to ten minute sessions six times daily. His progress will be reviewed each month. If the muscle cannot be built up then the operation cannot be performed.
The chartity has been following Tim's exercise plan in the hope that he will be strong enough to undergo his procedure. The cost of the operation could be up to £3700 and Crosskennan is now trying to raise this amount to give Tim a chance of life.
